Golf in Trinidad and Tobago

Golfers traveling to Trinidad and Tobago will be pleasantly surprised that there are several top notch golf courses on the main islands. 

Golf courses in Trinidad and Tobago are open year round, but avid golfers should note that golfing is best done during the dry season, which falls between the months of January and May.

Trinidad and Tobago Golf Association

The Trinidad and Tobago Golf Association (TTGA) works to preserve and promote the game of golf on the islands.  All eight golf courses on the island are governed by the TTGA, which means they are held to the highest standards and strive to provide guests with the optimal golfing environment.  TTGA hosts several major golf events each year, have programs for youth golfing, and work with the government to promote golf tourism.  You can contact the Trinidad and Tobago Golf Association by calling 868-629-7127 or e-mailing ttga@live.com.

The Courses

Brechin Castle Golf Club

Brechin Castle Golf Club features nine holes set amid old sugar plantations.  The club house features a restaurant and pool.

Chaguaramas Golf Club

At the base of Edith Falls sits the nine holes of Chaguaramas Golf Club.  The par-67 course was built on an old bean plantation and plans to expand to an 18 hole course in the coming years.  There is also a driving range on property.

Millennium Lakes Golf and Country Club

The Millennium Lakes Golf and Country Club features a driving range, putting greens, and 18 holes.  Golfers will also find a pro shop, sports bar, and lounge on property.

Mt. Irvine Golf Club

With views of the Caribbean Sea at each of Mt. Irvine Golf Club's 18 holes, the scenery is almost as stunning as the challenge of this championship course is.  The par-72 course is located in the middle of an old coconut plantation, and features a club and restaurant. 

Pointe-a-Pierre Golf Club

Pointe-a-Pierre is a par-71 course with 18 holes.  The rolling hills make the course a challenging one, especially the back nine.

St. Andrew's Golf Club

St. Andrew's Golf Club is an 18 hole course considered to be one of the top in the Caribbean.  The course is a hard one, with the first nine holes focusing on distance, and the last nine, accuracy.  

Tobago Plantations Golf and Country Club

Tobago Plantations Golf Course is a championship golf course with 18 holes and a panoramic view of Tobago's capitol city.

Usine St. Madeleine Golf Course

The Usine St. Madeleine Golf Course was once referred to as one of the worst golf courses in the Caribbean.  Under new management the course has undergone a major transformation in recent years, and now features nine holes on perfectly manicured lawns, and even has a youth program.

Events

There are several golf tournaments held in Trinidad and Tobago each year, or hosted by the TTGA. 

Caribbean Amateur Golf Championship

The Caribbean Amateur Golf Championship is not held in Trinidad and Tobago every year, though it has been the host country several times.  At the CAGC, top golfers from participating Caribbean nations (Bahamas, Barbados, Cayman Islands, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos, and U.S. Virgin Islands) compete for Hoerman Cup.

Trinidad and Tobago Open Championship

At the Trinidad and Tobago Open, 120 golfers compete to earn points towards the national title, as well as cash and prizes.

Whether you're a champion golfer or just enjoy hitting a few balls at the driving range, the views at Trinidad and Tobago's courses are worth the trip.
