Accommodations in Trinidad and Tobago

Trinidad and Tobago not only offer visitors charming cultural experiences and breath-taking natural beauty, but a variety of hotels and accommodations to satisfy most lodging preferences as well.

There are fewer hotels and resorts on Trinidad and Tobago than on most Caribbean islands, but the number of rooms doesn't affect the quality of the accommodations. Guesthouses and inns are available on both islands, particularly in Port of Spain, the capital of Trinidad. Hotels and resorts range from budget and moderately priced lodgings to exclusive luxury accommodations with lavish amenities. Taking time to browse the Star Ratings, Best Hotels For pages, and more in-depth A to Z hotel detail pages will give travelers an idea of the types of accommodations that are available on these lush and diverse islands.

Location

Trinidad

On Trinidad, Port of Spain is where you will find many dining and shopping opportunities, as well as plenty of attractions to visit.  There is also a great variety of lodging options in this area, from your typical hotel to rental properties.  If you're looking for a more quiet beach atmosphere, Blanchisseuse is the better choice.  Other places on the island known for hosting vacationers include Matelot and Chaguaramas

Tobago

Though Tobago is smaller than its sister island of Trinidad, there are still plenty of places for vacationers to stay.  Scarborough is home to the largest concentration of attractions, restaurants, shopping, and accommodations.  Canaan is a great second, followed by Charlotteville.  You will also find plenty of smaller hotels along the coast.

Types of Accommodations

Hotels

There are some all-inclusive hotels and resorts that offer package deals, which sometimes work out to be more affordable than paying for lodging, meals, and activities separately. Receiving one bill can help alleviate stress over the costs of individual luxuries. Before making your reservations at an all-inclusive hotel and resort, find out what amenities are included in the package deal.

Condo & Villa Rentals

Vacationers traveling with large groups or families may find rental properties, such as villas and apartments, provide independence. Private rentals can be spacious and quieter than most larger hotels and mega-resorts. Guests will have most of the amenities of home, including kitchens and living room areas. The convenience of rental properties is ideal for vacationers staying on the island for longer periods of time, as well as for tourists visiting the island in large groups.

Camping & Eco-Tourism

Travelers who want to get close to the islands' spectacular natural surroundings, including large rainforests, may enjoy camping or eco-accommodations. However, when camping or visiting the region's rainforests, it is recommended that you tour the forests with a guide to prevent getting lost in the abundant vegetation. With many styles of lodging available on Trinidad and Tobago, you should easily find a comfortable place from which to enjoy this unusual paradise. Coffie River Retreat and Footprints Eco Resort are two of the islands' eco-friendly properties.

Personal Considerations

As you plan where to stay in Trinidad and Tobago, you will have many different factors to take into consideration, especially if you are responsible for planning the trip for a group larger than just yourself.

Party Size

Large groups will have to work a little harder to find a place to stay than small parties.  If your clan won't comfortably fit in one hotel room, you may try to find a cheap hotel and reserve several rooms.  A better option is to seek out a hotel that specializes in suites such as Sun Deck Suites, or find a rental properties with enough rooms for everyone.

The type of group you are traveling with also makes a difference.  A group of adults looking to party will want to find an adults-only resort where they won't have to censor themselves, while families with young children will have a better time at a locale known for being family-friendly, such as Grafton Beach Resort or Blue Waters Inn.  Couples looking for the honeymoon experience will find that small inns and bed and breakfasts like Forty Winks Inn have the romantic atmosphere they crave.

Interests

You may find that finding accommodations nearest the attractions you plan to visit makes the most sense.  Another great thing about hotels in Trinidad and Tobago is that many of them offer specialty packages for guests who travel to the island for a specific purpose, like fishing or diving.  VHL Tobago Golf & Spa Resort, for example, is a great locale for vacationers who know they'll be spending the majority of their time on the greens.  Manta Lodge has a week-long dive package that includes daily dives.

Length of Stay

Most people travel to Trinidad and Tobago for a week or less, but there are some circumstances in which guests many need to stay on the island for longer.  If this sounds like you, you may consider finding a rental property that feels more like home.  Not only can you make yourself more comfortable, but the longer you stay, the more money you'll save.
